Before doing Georgina’s course we were having false starts and split nights, averaging 3 or more wake ups per night.

And I’m here for pretty similar reasons to you… except I’m now at the other end of the tunnel (where the light is!).

I totally get what it’s like to stress about sleep and muddle through the days, wishing for a ‘fast-forward’ button to skip ahead to easier times.

My first year with my little one was really tough when it came to sleep and settling. He was very colicky and unsettled as a newborn, and even as the months passed, he was always more wakeful—sometimes a lot more wakeful—than other babies.

Great question! Both Baby Sleep Unlocked™ and Baby Sleep Revolution™ are based on the same general sleep science principles and both can help parents achieve fast settling and more restful sleep. But they are different in terms of how they work and who they work best for.

Which one is right comes down to the individual child…

Most little ones just need relatively small adjustments / support to help them settle quickly and sleep better and this is what the Baby Sleep Unlocked™ focuses on – making evidence-based tweaks and changes to help support a little one’s natural sleep regulation system. For most parents, it’s all that’s needed. 

But some little ones – particularly those who don’t need a lot of sleep and who have been very wakeful at night for some time – need a more specific/precise approach. This is where the Baby Sleep Revolution™  program comes in. It guides parents through a unique, step-by-step process to transition their little one out of a chronically disrupted sleep pattern, and into a consistently restful sleep pattern.

So what I generally recommend to parents is:

If your little one is 5+ months old and really wakeful at night – they’re waking very frequently, or wide awake or restless for extended periods some or all nights – and they’ve been like this for many weeks or months, then Baby Sleep Revolution™  is likely to be the best option.

If your little one is wakeful, but not quite that wakeful (you’re managing at the moment but would LOVE to get to a better place so that you can get on with enjoying life), or if they’re younger than 5 months, or you’re still trying to work out what’s causing their wakefulness, then go with Baby Sleep Unlocked™.

If you’re unsure, Baby Sleep Unlocked™ is a great place to start, and may be all you need. Baby Sleep Revolution™ will be there if you decide you need it at any point in the future. Yes, you can! The strategies taught in the course help support sleep regardless and are gentle, yet effective.

But it’s also important to investigate and rule out or treat any possible health-related causes of wakefulness with your healthcare professional as a priority. If you’ve already done this but still have concerns or a gut feeling something isn’t right, keep investigating until you’re confident there’s no health-related cause/s. You know your little one best!

Absolutely! 

Baby Sleep Unlocked™ is designed for babies 0-6+ months. So if your little one is older than 6 months, and you’re experiencing the exact issues highlighted here on the course page, then the course is likely to really help you get to a better place!

While wakefulness is particularly common in the first 6 months, it’s not uncommon sleep to be quite up and down in the first year or two, and sometimes little ones sleep well for a period and then become wakeful later down the track (regressions!). 

Because the strategies taught in the course are based on sleep science, they can be successfully applied to older babies, and most also apply to toddlers, and sometimes even children and adults!
In saying all of this, if your little one is 5+ months old and really wakeful at night – they’re waking very frequently, or wide awake or restless for extended periods some or all nights – and they’ve been like this for many weeks or months, then my program – Baby Sleep Revolution™  – may be a better option. It’s not, I PROMISE!!

There are many different methods of sleep training, but they all work in the same way – they all require parents to either not respond, delay their response or not respond in the way their little one wants (e.g. patting them instead of picking them up or feeding them) at night. 

The aim of sleep training is to extinguish the connection the baby’s brain makes between calling out at night and getting a response. So essentially, the baby learns that when they call out, they don’t get a response (or don’t get the response they want), so they stop calling out. Studies have found that sleep training doesn’t actually improve babies’ sleep – they still wake just as much after sleep training – it just teaches them not to signal to parents (1-2). Sleep training requires little ones to sleep in a separate room to their parent(s), and parents are advised not to respond during the night. For this reason it’s not typically compatible with room sharing, bed sharing or overnight feeds.

Baby Sleep Unlocked™ works completely different to sleep training / behavioural sleep interventions. It focuses on supporting and optimising the body’s natural sleep regulation systems – the circadian rhythm and sleep-wake homeostasis (or sleep pressure as it’s most commonly known). Parents are encouraged to respond in whatever way works best for them and their little one. Feeding to sleep and safe bedsharing (if relevant/preferred) are 100% supported!

Bedsharing is a great option for some, but not everyone can do it safely, and not everyone sleeps well with their little one right beside them! When a little one is quite wakeful, you have to do what’s necessary to maximise sleep, and sometimes that can mean bedsharing, even when you’d prefer not to. 

This course can’t guarantee your little one is going to sleep soundly in their own bed/room for the entire night. However, many parents find the course does help with this – or they find at least that their little one can start the night in their own bed/room.

The course doesn’t promote or focus on night weaning.

This is because it’s very normal for babies, and even toddlers, to feed at night. There is no research to support the idea that babies don’t have to feed at night after a certain age. The first few years of life is a period of rapid growth and development, so it makes logical sense that little ones need to feed at night – most can’t go for 8+ hours without any nutrition or hydration. Feeding/nursing overnight is 100% supported in the course. 

With this said, in the future there will probably come a time where you may want, or need, to night wean. How easy the night weaning process is comes down to the individual and the situation. Night weaning typically gets easier as little ones get older, with most experts recommending parents wait until 18+ months if possible. No. As you’ll learn, when it comes to sleep needs and sleep patterns – there’s a really wide variation. Every baby is different. So Baby Sleep Unlocked™ focuses on helping you figure out what works best for your little one.

Some of the steps / strategies do require consistency – like getting your little one up around the same time each day for example – while other aspects, such as the timing and location of naps, how you settle your little one, are very flexible.

You don’t have to apply all 7 steps either. You can pick and choose the ones that are going to work best for you. 

No. Baby Sleep Unlocked™ is a self-guided course and does not include 1:1 / personalised sleep coaching. The videos and instructions are really clear, so as long as you’re comfortable in the driver’s seat, you should be fine!

In saying this, the course does include the option to ask the Georgina May Sleep team a general question in the member’s portal. So if you’d like further information or clarification on any lesson content, you can post your question under the relevant lesson, and a member of the team will aim to respond within two business days. Responses and any examples provided are general in nature (1:1 / personalised coaching is not included in the course).

If you’d prefer to have someone guiding you and providing 1:1 coaching, this is probably not the right solution/course for you.

Absolutely! Many parents use it to improve sleep for more than one child – either twins or siblings – they might join mainly because their 4 month old is wakeful, but also apply some of the strategies to their 3 year old for example.
